Black nothingness where a sun used to be.
An enormous, radiant time bomb-
Burning, ticking, reminding…
And ready to take.
To in a moment’s time,
retract and consume all that it granted
to so many for so long.
What seemed an eternity, for you and I
was but a brief, beautiful dream.
A trick of the mind to pass the time,
to keep our thoughts away from what occurs at the end.
No star burns eternally;
nor leaves gently or subtlety.
But vanishes dramatically and absolutely,
leaving a cataclysm in its wake.
Devastating and dooming to obscurity;
all that its dying tendrils touch.
Passions too cool in time.
The consequences, though, are harder to define.
For everything is seemingly as before,
on the outside.
Passions lying dormant in our chests-
Cold…and lifeless.
No longer bolstering our sense of place,
nor propelling us forward.
Leaving us hallow,
To gaze at the wisps of smoke, trailing over dark ash-
where a fire once called home.
But patiently we wait,
for our next light to spark.
For the only thing eternal for you and I-
is our hope for the future,
our candle in the dark.
